Victoria Ledig

Inside the Box

27.5 x 27.5 ″

Acrylic on Cotton Canvas

Several works of Ledig’s capture intimate moments of womanhood, highlighting the paradox of strength and vulnerability, and the sense of sisterhood shared between women. The painting Inside the Box is a personal piece for the artist, capturing the suffocating feeling of fitting certain expectations. She says she "[feels] like women are supposed to fill so many impossible roles and tick so many boxes. Being a good wife, partner, lover; a good mother, have a career, take care of the household, carry the mental load; be a good daughter and daughter in law; have a social life, take care of your body and your looks; be good company and don't be too loud, and don't take up too much space at the same time."
