BIO

Eric Alfaro (b. 1991, Moscow) is a Cuban painter who blends novelty and tradition. Rich landscapes are rendered in black and white, with one element of the scene in vibrant color. Alfaro demonstrates his profound understanding of light and his mastery of paint, using thick layers to create depth and detail within a primarily monochromatic palette. His brush strokes are visible and open with a feeling of effortlessness; a bold, contemporary interpretation of the style favored by Impressionist painters like Claude Monet. Alfaro uses several techniques of the 19th-century movement, most notably his study of natural light, the idyllic outdoor scenes he paints, and the way he captures the essence of his subject.

Alfaro’s work is dynamic to the eye. The pop of bright color in each work serves to draw attention to a specific point of the painting. Alfaro uses paint to direct the gaze of the viewer; in The Purple Flower, a vivid lilac lily in a sea of black-and-white lily pads draws the eye to the right of the canvas’s center, creating a sense of reverence for the single purple flower. In his painting The Way, the bright red bridge becomes a conceptual counterpart to the physical act of crossing the bridge, inviting the viewer on a visual journey.

Born in Moscow and raised in Cuba, Alfaro graduated from the Provincial Academy of Fine Arts (APAP) Raúl Martínez de Morón, Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. His work can be found in private collections around the world. His work can be found in private collections around the world. Additionally, Aflaro’s paintings are part of the collections in the Copperbridge Foundation in Miami, F&F Media Corp. in New York, and the Lincoln Center Orchestra Collection in New York.
