In Mother and Child, Victoria Ledig reframes the classical motif of the Madonna and Child through a lens of stylized abstraction and quiet provocation. Rendered in hues of blush, crimson, and violet-grey, the composition evokes both intimacy and monumentality. The mother’s form, sculptural in posture and bearing, echoes ancient depictions of lactating goddesses — fertility icons of Roman antiquity whose exposed breasts signified nourishment and divine strength. Here, lactation is not just maternal, but mythic.

With softened geometry and elliptical contours, the bodies unfold in visual rhythm — figures distilled to their emotional essence. The child’s hand reaches instinctively; the mother’s gaze is poised, timeless. It is a portrait of care — visceral, archetypal, and utterly contemporary.
