Form II presents the human figure underwater in its utmost simplicity. Our subject is poised and angular, the soft light drawing attention to the body’s ever-changing landscape. Her distorted reflection at the surface is the only hint towards the water environment that surrounds her, her anonymity retained as her chin lifts to breathe.
Fitz’s on-going “Black” series was the first fine art series she began while working as a documentary filmmaker. The images were an attempt at simplifying the unruly natural world she was photographing at the time - stripping away the scuba tanks, boat logistics, and large crews to simply breath hold with a model in a pool, creating a womb-like abyss where the female form takes center stage.
