LINA CONDES
Condes imagines her work at the mid-point of a heavy-light, high-low axis. Her stainless steel, fiberglass, wood and stone figures are at once modern and technology driven but also deeply authentic and accessible
BIO
Lina Condes is a contemporary American-Ukrainian artist known for her stick figure sculptures, through which she seeks to authentically represent the emotional and mental lives of modern people.
The sculptures are created using industrial stainless steel, fiberglass, wood, and stone. Her unique methodology and artistry in working with these traditionally industrial materials creates an end result that is more commonly witnessed through bronze and marble.
Condes earned her MFA in Fine Arts with a focus on Interior and Furniture Design from Kiev University of Technology and Design. Born in the countryside of Cherkassy City to a family of professors of physics and math, Condes has a foundation of industrial configurations and materials found in her sculptures today.

The Thinker, 2022
Fiberglass, acrylic paint, candy color
Condes investigates the lineage of traditional figurative sculpture by masters such as Giorgio Vasari and Leonardo Da Vinci, updating and building upon these masters leveraging contemporary technologies and her unique perspectives. Condes focuses on ‘mental states’ — different emotions and psychological conditions — that she achieves by blending materials, shapes, and colors.
“I suggest a new dignity and sense of tradition for this contemporary reality. My figures are both heroic and ironic — strong monumental players in a brave new world. These artworks uphold the illusion of an eternal perfection which can be strived for and achieved. These sculptures are allegories for our times.”
