A student of both classical and pop-art, Rousso explores form, material culture and media as commentary on the human condition
BIO
Paul Rousso (b. 1958, Charlotte, NC) is an American-born visual artist and innovator. Rousso’s signature works are large-scale sculptures of everyday objects, using scale to emphasize wrappers and ephemera that might otherwise be overlooked. By confronting viewers with these whimsically massive objects, Rousso underscores their importance as reflections of our society.
Rousso began his formal training at the Cleveland Institute of Art in Ohio but found himself in New York City after an injury. Once in New York, Rousso joined an interior design team and found himself drawing plans for the home of Robert De Niro.
Rousso completed his BFA in 1981 at the California College of Arts in Oakland before becoming a successful art director and illustrator for brands such as Revlon, Clairol, Condé Nast, and Bloomingdales. Today,
Rousso’s work is held in private collections throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East and beyond, and numerous public projects of his appear across the United States. He has shown at Art New York, Art Palm Beach, and Art Miami as well as Scope Miami, Scope New York, and Scope Basel.

Mixed Media on Hand-Sculpted Polystyrene
Paul Rousso, uses heat infusion on polystyrene to create hyper-realistic, hyper-sized, sculptures of everyday print objects. Through exaggerations of size, Rousso places familiar items as a crumpled-up ten-dollar bill or newspaper on the same relative plane as the viewer. Rousso’s art speaks to the transformation of physical objects, incorporate the butterfly as a symbol of this rebirth in some of his newer works.
