Avant Gallery is pleased to announce its inaugural participation in EXPO CHICAGO with a focused solo presentation of new paintings by Marcos Anziani. This marks the artist’s first major fair appearance in the Midwest, introducing a powerful new body of work that deepens his exploration of abstraction through the lens of identity, memory, and emotional resonance.

Born in the Dominican Republic, raised in the Bronx, and now based in Connecticut, Anziani weaves personal history into gestural compositions that are both intuitive and precise. In this latest series, raw mark-making meets atmospheric calm, yielding richly textured surfaces that pulse with rhythm and introspection. Color is not merely applied—it is felt, vibrating across the canvas with a sense of breath and tempo.

The presentation builds on the momentum of Anziani’s sold-out solo exhibition at Avant Gallery’s Miami flagship, and his inclusion in the 2024 group exhibition at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach. His work is held in private collections across the globe and continues to garner critical and institutional attention.

Highlights from the booth include:

"REM" | 60x60 in | Acrylic and oil on canvas | 2025

A figure floats within the REM stage of sleep—conscious, yet adrift. Here, he allows the dream’s narrative to unfold, watching with quiet vigilance, ready to respond for his own survival. The piece hovers between control and surrender, intuition and strategy.

"Cacao" | 60x60 in | Acrylic and oil on canvas | 2025

An older man rests in the marquesina—a modest front porch in an urban Caribbean neighborhood. His eyes turn inward, recalling childhood memories in the mountains where his family harvested and roasted cacao. The painting evokes the warmth of remembrance, where the past lingers gently in the present.

"In Another Life" (En Otra Vida) | 60x48 in | Acrylic and oil on canvas | 2025

Two former lovers reunite by chance on a dance floor after years apart. In a fleeting, tender moment, they share one final dance before returning to the lives they've built without one another. A tribute to what once was—and what might have been.

Through this new series, Anziani refines a visual language that resists resolution. His paintings invite quiet reflection, offering spaces where the personal and the universal—gesture and stillness, longing and memory—intersect.
