DAAS’ work synthesizes line, geometric shapes and rich textures to produce images that use both representational and abstract elements to create recognizable forms such as humans, animals and insects. There is a dichotomy to this approach, where, two main forces tug away at each other, chaos and control, to “tune” the images and create a sense of harmony. Currently living in Japan, DAAS’ finds inspiration in crease patterns in origami, studying the variations of textures and hues in the layers of old aged walls around historic sites in Nara, Japan.
